SD cards --or more accurately, SDHC cards, above 4GB -- have several safe brands: Transcend, Lexar, Sandisk, Kingston. Definitely do not buy cheap brands like Adata, Ritek, or Patriot. Avoid store brands, like
Amazon Basics. And ironically, sometimes the crappy brands cost more than the good brands. (It's probably a sales volume thing.)
Right now, SDHC cards are cheap. I'd go for Class 10, and get 16GB minimum, preferably 32GB cards.
These are currently on
Amazon (all with free shipping on $25 order):
I'd get one of those. I like Transcend more than Sandisk.

Sony Memory Sticks? I always buy the Sony-branded ones. These are a bit more costly than SDHC. But Amazon has some good prices, as usual. Go for the Mark 2 cards. And virtually everything is "PRO Duo" now, not just a plain old Memory Stick. It's been that way for quite a few years now.
IMPORTANT: Always remember to backup solid-state camera flash memory onto your computer. Never archive photos on a memory card. Far too many people are losing their photos these days, because they'll store precious family photos on a camera for months or years, and that's not suggested at all. Even camera makers and manufacturers suggest frequent data backup. Using the best cards avoids disaster, but solid-state is still an imperfect media.
