One other protection against light-damage could be mold or fungus. If that grows around the edge, thick enough, then light isn't going to penetrate. In fact, molds and fungus will grow TO the light...

We have a handful of old AGPs matched up with SB cards, too. Those still give the best VHS conversions and analog recordings.

If it's the only place to store them, then why are you asking for alternatives? I don't understand. But with all that heat and humidity, I'd think bacterial growth would be another problem.
