What kind of preparation do you do before starting to capture an old tape? I have dozens of miniDV, Video8, VHS-C, and VHS tapes. Some play back very well, others not so much, and some not at all....

You should be able to load the video files into Audacity. For me it discard sthe video and only loads the audio.

If you have a lot of files, you may want to look into ffmpeg....
