Do some VCRs crush blacks internally?

I've been comparing captures from a Panasonic PV V402 and PV VS4821. While the latter is an S-VHS that's probably not regarded too highly I've noticed that it's clipping blacks no matter what I do....

I wish I did take a video, I have since left it as lower priority as I wanted to digitize the tapes in better condition first. The Sony one inside it looked like any other tape, the reels turned...

I apologize for any misinformation I may have spread a bit as well, I've learned a lot more these past few months than I ever did about analog capturing. It's far more complex than I initially...

Unrelated, but I was wondering if you could help clear this up for me. Are the Panasonic DVD recorders like ES10/ES15 different in that they preserve the Y/C separation of S-Video input on...

Best capture options for line TBC?

To preface, not interested in the Panasonic DMR ES10/ES15 as despite their decent line-tbc, the clipped whites is a huge deal breaker for me. I have a DMR ES45 which also has a decent line tbc, but I...

Is there a program or workflow you'd recommend to deal with this issue? I saw that some people have used avisynth for this. Unfortunately I guess it's not an issue for those with S-VHS players, but...

Apologies for the bump, I've more or less solved this. I've read a lot online and saw a neat workaround people have used that works like magic. Squashing the video to 360x480 and then stretching it...

Is this crosstalk on my Panasonic DMR?

Hello, I've been experiencing some weird artifacts on the S-Video output of my Panasonic DMR, specifically the ES45v. Before using S-Video I was using the component out of this DMR into a component...

I removed the extra audio tracks and the filesize decreased significantly, like 10+ MB reduction from 95 MB originally. Don't know why it has so many tracks.

This is a snippet from a VHS-C tape I...

Thank you all for the helpful answers. I bit the bullet and adjusted the head switching point on the Panasonic PV V4021 VCR since it's one where I could just loosen and move the circuit board atop...

Wow, that's pretty good on the Panasonic. Is there any softening filter on that JVC VCR? The Panasonic screen look quite a bit more detailed as well.

Completely remove VCR head switching noise?

I've been met with a bit of a dilemma. I have two VCR's; a Panasonic PV V4021, and a Sony SLV-779 HF. I'm passing through a Panasonic DMR-ES45V to kind of stabilize the signal a bit, and it's cleaned...

I was indeed warned that the HDMI output would be not great. :( I guess I can still do some comparisons to see if it's closer to 60 fps than 30 fps on passthrough. Just to see. If not, will stick to...
