I disagree with this. In the specific cases of miniDV and Digital8 cams, the cleaning tapes work very well. I've only ever used Sony's and TDK's head cleaners but I definitely recommend them....

I think the "always on" TBC is limited to the last D-VHS models, or just to the US models. The HM-DR10000EU, which I believe is the only PAL machine, does have selectable TBC if I remember correctly.
