Are these two VCRs identical (just different branding) or are there some minor differences?

Is there a reason why the JVC is in bold (preferred) and the GoVideo isn't?

I compared the manual for the SDV-650 to the HR-S9800U and they are word-for-word, picture-for-picture exactly the same except for the brand naming on the units and remotes (see attached as examples).

I can only assume these two units are indeed exactly the same except for color and branding.

Yeah looks like exactly the same. Seems different that with the Philips vcrs that share parts with JVC decks (eg VR1000, VR1100 and a bunch others both SVHS and not SVHS) where there are some minor differences and not 100% exact model matches. In Europe there is a Thomson vcr that also seems like a copy of one of the late 90s JVC SVHS decks (THOMSON VSH 2050, looks similar to the PAL HR-S7500 minus the edit port but not sure) and going further back some more some more top of the line JVC made vcrs of several brands.
