Hello All,

I'm not sure if this is the right thread for this, but I recently purchased a Sony WV-DR9 combo DV and Super VHS player/recorder. Unfortunately, the DV side won’t play, forward, or rewind. The tape goes in and gets extended to the head, but there is no other movement or sound. I took it to a local repair shop and was told that the servo control board was the issue. He stated that the part was not repairable and had to be replaced. Unfortunately, he couldn’t find the part. He also stated that the last time he repaired the same model six years ago, the servo control board was $300.

So, A. I’m wondering if the servo control board is repairable, and if not, B. Are the DV servo control boards on the Sony WV-DR5 and Sony WV-DR7 interchangeable with the Sony WV-DR9? If they are interchangeable, I’d like to purchase one of those units since they are cheaper and swap out the part.

Please advise!

Thanks!

Wow. Small world, I was just reading about this series of VCR with some mixed opinions presented. How does it do with regular VHS in your experience? My understanding is that it does have a TBC which is rather uncommon for a Sony VHS player

My first question would be why are you wanting to use that player for DV? There should be lots of DV players out there that are going to cost much less than the repair described here. Since it's already digital, the player used to send it via firewire shouldn't really matter, should it?

Correct, it does not, assuming the heads pickup the data properly.
