Huffyuv vs. uncompressed YCbCr?

hey guys,

I download Vdub and I read about compression. So most using Huffyuv V2.1.1 . and this was not installed
So I had to download it first and install it in system before use it. But why not using other Codec ?
there many options like ycbcr or mpeg4 or matroska ffv1 or we just work with uncompressed .

is it related to way of workflow ?
can some help for that

Huffuyv is lossless compressed, MPEG4 and others are lossy compressed, You don't want to capture directly into a lossy codec.

Ah I got it . same as Matroska ..it is lossless.
how about capture AVI uncompressed . is it ok or not recommend it

Uncompressed can cause dropped frames. The reason they made losslessly compressed codecs like Huffy is so they would be easier for your computer to handle by reducing the file size without losing quality.

I think this is true but someone please tell me if I am off base here. I’m still kind of new myself relative to most of the people here. MP4 is highly compressed and it’s tough for your computer to deal with in editing because it’s compressed temporally. It’s also compressed spacially. Losslessly compressed Huffy is just compressed spacially and it’s meant for editing but not meant for viewing of sharing. No one codec is better than the other they are just different.

That's it, the bandwidth (I/O) of uncompressed induces problems, and for no benefit. Too much data, causes lags.

H.264 (MPEG 4 Pt 10, what many think is "MP4") is GOP compression + soften algorithms, never use that for capture.

MP4 and MKV are wrappers/containers, not a format. It's not "lossless" any more than a tomato or a cat. (If you're thing "WTF?", then precisely!)
