I have a Toshiba 2 head model number M-462.

I have been digitizing my home videos. I started after an internal cleaning with isopropyl 99% and chamois sticks cleaning the heads. Worked good enough to proceed. I digitized a bunch of VHS tapes, then wanted to clean again. Silly me, I used a new dry vhs cleaning tape, and after using, the video and audio were not good. I opened the vcr again and cleaned the audio and video heads as I did originally two different times. The video is now fine, but the audio is not getting better. It is garbled. I tried a few VHS tapes, and it is the same.

What else can I do?

Audio hifi or linear (test with a retail movie tape and non hifi) If linear that's a problem with the AC head (the X-point), you may have slightly moved it during the cleanup.

Thank you for the quick response!

After posting the question, I closed the elgato app that I am using to digitize the VHS tapes, and then reopened, and the audio glitch was gone. Not sure why that happened.

I did before your reply start reading about the x point and how to adjust, so that may be something else to learn and know about, thank you.

What about demagnitizing? I read that can be an issue, too, with the quality of transfer.

Glad you sorted the problem by restarting the converter.

Adjusting the X point would not have fixed any garbled audio in the linear track anyway.
