Out of curiosity, have you tried different kind of tapes like PAL,Secam, NTSC and also SP and LP (different speed= different heads are in action)

I had the board out, could find no bad solder joints, leakage sign etc...

A few other problems appeared.

This machine is toast. Going to scrap it.

Thank you to all who read and replied.

Yes, PAL and NTSC in both SP and LP. Same issue.

The "vcr-inside-a.jpg" attachment shows a "On Screen" area next to the "Servo" area on the mainboard with a chip and three capacitors.

Where exactly would the luminance demodulation be located ?

What letter would the capacitors start with ? "L" "C" ... ?

(Again, I do not have the service manual, nor can I find one.)

Cheers,

David

Here are some images to show the display problem in some more detail.

No VHS tapes were in any machine for this test.

1) The first image shows the internal Philips vcr menu on the tv (output image is okay) Philips --> TV

2) The second image shows another vcr (Samsung) menu on the tv (output image is okay) Samsung --> TV

now...

3) The third image shows the Samsung menu being sent to the Philips vcr (via Aux in) and the Philips vcr sending the Samsung menu image to the tv (output image has problems) Samsung --> Philips --> TV

It seems when the Philips "processes" any video being sent to it (via Aux in or VHS) it had display problems.

What area of the machine would I need to start looking at ?

Cheers,

David

I have added a video (10 seconds) showing the bleed / image smearing when the image gets more light (white) in the picture and how the video starts to distort.

Video was generally okay before the image showed light/white colours.

I have also included three screen captures from the attached video.

Thank you very much for any help and pointers you can give.

David
