What to do about rust on bottom of equipment?

I just took a look at my Panasonic ES15 for the first time... probably ever, in the 7 or so years that I've owned it, and I see that the bottom's got some rust on it. Is there anything I can or should do about this?

- Clean it with 90%+ alcohol, try to remove it all.
- Shoot some WD-40 in a napkin, give it a deep rub, wipe it off, make sure residue isn't left.

Getting rust off isn't problem. Keeping it off is the problem.

You must be in some sort of humid environment. I know NYC has a lot of non-AC living, so do you have a lot of outside ocean air come in?

Salt rust is common in lower Cali too (San Diego and lower), where often no AC is used. I've bought gear from coastal facilities and individuals, and it's rusty. Part of my refurb is to remove and treat.

white vinegar to remove the rust then varnish it so it's not in contact with air

I would make sure it doesn't get into any PCB, and most importantly, check any device with a mechanism if you live in a humid environment.
