Sony SLV-R1000 S-VHS remote not working?

Hi all,

I have a Sony SLV-R1000 SVHS player and I purchased a separate remote to work with it. It is the RMT-V129 remote, which I think is the correct remote, but I can't get the player to recognize the remote commands. I can see that the remote is working (using my phone to see the infrared light). Is there a way to pair the remote with the player somehow or some setting that has to be changed? If anyone can point me in the right direction, I'd be super grateful. Thank you.

I know this is an old posting but I just bought a Sony SLV-R1000 and the remote wouldn't work for me either. I changed Command Mode VTR 1,2,3 (bottom right behind fold down panel) from 1 to 3 and this worked for me. My remote is different though, model RMT-V141D
