Hello and thanks for allowing me to join the group.
I have a Sony EV-C100 I’m trying to resurrect for a documentary project I’m working on. After not being used for a long time (but stored in a dry closet), the first tape I tried jammed in the mechanism. Taking the shortcut to success was not going to be in the cards for me, so I had to open the unit up to dislodge the tape. Since I was already into the unit, it was worth the time to remove the mechanism and give it a thorough cleaning. The heads were cleaned, dust and grime were removed from the drum, and the guide rails and all other moving parts were cleaning and lubricated. Once it was reassembled, the mechanism worked perfectly.
However, the video output is showing what appears to be a complete lack of color other than a green and purple bar that flashes in the top third of the output. The bottom of the video look just fine, and the audio output sounds as it should. I’ve tried the video output through both S-video and composite and the results are the same.
Thinking there could be a problem with the video output board (bad cap or something), I tried recording to the unit while monitoring the video output and that looked great. So, perhaps there doesn’t appear to be an issue with output itself? However, playing BACK the recorded test footage shows the same discolored portion at the top of the screen.
I’m not sure if this could be a remaining symptom of a head clog since I’ve never seen a clog manifest itself as a loss of color in a small portion of the output display. Usually the video will just go to snow. I’ve seen this kind of thing happen before in a Sony PTZ camera where the entire video output of the unit was green and purple, but never in this manner where only a small portion of the output was messed up.
Regardless, I’m hoping someone else has seen a similar problem and can point me in the right direction for solving the issue.
Many thanks.
Aaron
