Recently, I was able to pick up a Sony SLV-R1000 for $40. The exterior is in fantastic shape, and the owner had barely used it/had it stored in their attic for over 20 years. Upon testing it out, the pinch roller wasn't working as it should have. After checking the timings, inspecting for leaking capacitors, and applying some grease, everything is now functioning as it should. However, the video quality is very poor. From the terrible colors to the major artifacts, even a low-quality VCR I have is outperforming it. I cleaned the heads and triple checked the timings, so I'm just kind of lost on where to go from here; maybe the tension arms? I took some footage from this VCR, a low-quality VCR, and a Philips VR 960 for comparison. In the Sony's case, the footage was taken as soon as the tape was inserted. If you have any experience with this issue or any suggestions, feel free to let me know!
