Hi, I'm new to the forum, not heavy into digitizing or transferring but I do have an AG-1980 that works mechanically but needs an electronics refurb. The best price quote I've received is from a trusted tech I've used for several other projects. Even still he is saying $300 to $600 for a recap. Is this deck really worth the investment or is it all just bluster?

That is an average cost, and completely worth it.

I'd contact users Deter or Aramkolt for this -- TGrant not suggested.

General techs, even random VCR techs, are not qualified for this beast of a deck. This monster has very specialized needs. It can be a money pit deck, lots of re-repairs, unless done correctly.

- For sale in the marketplace: TBCs, workflows, capture cards, VCRs

Hey all, and thx LS for the advice. As I said I'm new here and not sure who's who, what's what and so forth. As such in just posting a general shout out to Deter and Aramkolt and ask that they contact me so that we can discuss this. I'd like very much to get this deck working as it should. I've been putting together a vintage av system and have tried to get very good examples of each component. The Panasonic AG-1980 seems to be very well thought of so I gambled on an untested unit from eBay. As I said mechanically it seems to be sound but it definitely needs an electronics refurb.
Thx again!
