I got this unit from a friend who said it failed after a short time and he forgot about it until recently. The problem is that when the VCR is plugged in, it powers on, does its self test, and powers down. Normal right? Now when I try to turn it back on using the power button on the remote or the unit itself... no response. Okay... I put a tape in, it turns on, press play... no response. I remove the record tab and reinsert the tape and it plays. But I am unable to pause, rewind or fastforward. When I press the REW/FF buttons it ejects the tape. Stop/Eject doesn't respond either. I don't know what to do. Its a really nice deck. I was hoping I could fix it. Any suggestions?

A VCR this old is not worth repairing.

It turns out the eject button was stuck and the VCR was confused. Took me a while to figure that one out. I replaced the button and everythings good now. Now I just need to get a new drum.

May I ask how did you solve the eject button? I have this vcr and can't get it to eject, button is just stuck and doesn't want to move.
