picked up a 1980 with eject problems (the pinch arm grease was dried up and the pinch arm was stuck)

downloaded the manuals, took it all apart, after 2 days... im 90% sure it aligned properly

now, heres whats goin on...

the minute you plug it in, it tries to pull a tape in

if you take the cassette deck off, you power it up and nothing happens (like it should)
http://escanabasucks.com/junk/1980-01.png

if you put your finger by the LEFT and MIDDLE photo sensor, nothing happens
if you put your finger by the RIGHT it acts like the above problem and tries to take a tape in

if you notice when the deck is normal eject, that right photo sensor hole is blocked
http://escanabasucks.com/junk/1980-02.png

when the cassette deck is down, that photo sensor hole is open
http://escanabasucks.com/junk/1980-03.png

so its almost like the photo sensor is acting backwards
or the deck is wrong (dont think it can go any other way)

also i went the through and resoldered everything on the k mech pcb board

any ideas?

*UPDATE*

right after i finished to write that it all made sense...
the deck alignment was WRONG
the right photo sensor hole needs to be OPEN at EJECT
soooo

now i just need to know what the cartridge gear is supposed to look like at eject?
picture anyone?

Did you look at the 1980 service manual yet?
Does that not help?

Manuals at: http://www.digitalfaq.com/forum/vcr-...r-manuals.html

i was one tooth off on the deck alignment and it wasnt opening the photo hole =)
soooooo...

now that the deck is re aligned, i get to move on to new problems

its playing the video too fast
tried two different tapes, one SP and one EP
both play too fast with no sound

gonna go find some 99% Iso Alcohol tomorrow, and clean some heads and see if that will make a difference...

one a side note:
if i unglug the left head thingy (audio ?) while its playing it makes no differnce
the same with the right head thingy... i unplug it during playback and it doesnt do anything different

other suggestions? bad solder points?

Your email is bouncing.

MSN (Outlook, Hotmail, etc) has blocked mail delivery from a Namecheap IP range. That was stupid of them.

Ask yourself this: "Who else is trying to contact me, but they're instead getting bounced messages?"

This is on reason why freemails -- especially MSN ones -- are completely terrible and backwards in 2015. I truly hate that MS is trying to force their OS to now use MSN accounts to log in.

As to playing too fast with no sound, are you running it with the top off? Any stray light will cause this.

put the cover on, not really much difference

i did manage to get sound though...
if you hold down the linear audio record RESET button you get sound, but the second you release it, you lose sound

hmmm

i did just get it realigned, maybe its an alignment / tension problem
because the tracking is also poop

Linear or Hi-Fi sound?
Is the capstan/pressure roller tension correct?
Is the pressure roller in good condition?
Is the take-up reel tension correct
Is the control track head reading a signal properly?

like i said, i just got it aligned enough to play
(first time messing with a ag1980)

and sometimes the LEFT take up arm misses the tape, when you insert a tape

so with that being an issue, my first idea is shitty tension

im guessing its close, but still out of alignment

you know, the manuals show you the alignment marks
but it would be SOOOOO much easier to see a actual picture of a real ag1980 properly aligned and working

that was the problem!

although it was close and working, it was still out of alignment...

(the left take up wasnt going all the way up)

took it back apart, corrected it, adjusted the audio head a lil, also took a extra twist out of the audio head ribbon connector, BAM!

now its playing and it has sound!

last problem, wavy color lines...

RECAP TIME!
