Hi !

Just a simple question..
Are build in TBC in portable s-vhs-c cams are good as VCR's TBC ?

I need to archive some s-vhs-c cassettes , but the adapter cassettes are rare and expensive and i preffer to bye a cam instead adapter.
Some models i found in BG /Bulgarian/ marketplace :

Panasonic NV-SX50
JVC GR-SXM58
JVC GR-FX220A

Assuming the cameras are technically ok, which is preferable?
Camera with built-in TBC or recorder with built-in TBC ?

Thanks in advance !

Some high end S-VHS camcorders did very well but the major difference between a VCR and a camcorder is the tape wrap angle, The VCR scans the tape in 180° wrap with two heads, one field per head, While the VHS-C camcorder scans the tape in 270° wrap and uses a small 4 heads drum rotating at higher than normal speed to track down the 2 fields, this is not ideal especially for LP tapes recorded on a different camcorder, SP recordings are more resilient. This is why a full size drum VCR is recommended.

S-VHS-C cameras did a terrible job of playing tapes.
Been there, done that.
Learn from my mistakes, don't repeat them. S-VHS-C cameras like to eat the -C tapes.
