I connected my JVC S3910U to my Panasonic ES15. Since the JVC doesn't have TBC, I don't need to turn it off (as per the best practice). I further assume the following should be the settings on the JVC:
  • Video calibration should be OFF
  • Video stabilizer should be OFF

Here's my question: can you confirm if Picture Control should be set to EDIT or NORM?

The norm setting engage the tracking system, the edit mode don't
So in other words: for pristine retail tapes: edit mode; for home recorded tapes: norm
The auto calibration i believe should be ON because each tape is different and may required an adjustment of the video heads (we're talking microns here). The problem with auto calibration is that is can introduce snow in the playback

In other words: enable auto calibration press play for a min or so , rewind, disable auto calibration and then you can record.

Someone correct me if i'm wrong
