Would appreciate any feedback on whether or not you have had success capturing DV on Windows 11 eg with WinDV or Scenalyzer.

That is, connecting the camera to the 710 with Firewire.

As far as I know it's more of a motherboard chipset than OS, I think Intel nuked the capability of streaming DV at the hardware level, Have you installed the 2012 Pinnacle driver? I know it was made for Win 7 but I had success with it under Win 10 using the 500-USB.

I'm using this driver on Win 10 and it's working fine:

(which is the same as the DigitalFAQ driver)

Thanks for the info on the 500-USB; there's a few on Ebay for cheap. It's a good way to get DV into a modern computer, especially a laptop.

If you get to try it on Win 11, I'd be grateful for feedback.

I don't have Win 11 and I don't think I will be using it anytime soon, Win 10 was a big stretch for me from Win 7.

It's fine on Win10.

My daily non-video system is failing (now 11 years old), so I'm being forced to upgrade it. I've selected something, and it will come with Win11 Pro. (But if it pisses me off too much, switching to Mint.) I can at least quick-try it.

I have found Win10 systems that refused this card, in multiple ways. Oddly, sometimes the analog capture did not work, just DV. Other times, nothing. Other times, buggy and crashed all software (including AmaRecTV fallback that some here like to use).

Sometimes WinDV best, sometimes not. But WinDV always captured, when DV worked.

Just FYI, 500/510/700/710 are not all the same. And there are variations therein. It's a long lived model. So you cannot blindly buy. Pinnacle and Hauppauge were both bad about production changes.

Yes, Microsoft nukes the driver everytime there is an update for Win 10, All what I have to do though is just go back to that 2012 driver file and run it again and the card starts working for both DV and analog. They are really trying hard to kill this legacy task, I don't know what they have against it, or it could be that the current generation of engineers programmers see it as a useless feature and completly ignore it since most of them never heard of VHS, Who knows.

Sooner or later this hobby will disapear and will be very few around the globe that can put up a capturing workflow using "then" ancient hardware, just like what some are doing right now for old computers microwave size HDD's, You can't just plug them in into a 2023 laptop using USB 4, So you have to build an entire computer system from scratches using old hardware and software to recover the data from them.
