Hi, having the same problem with Pinnacle USB 710. In virtualdub2 I have "some kind of picture" scrambled signal or something via composite out but via s-video just black screen. I tried switching to windows WDM and selecting Pinnacle 710 but VirtualDub2 froze every time.
Any idea whats happening here ?

You're trying to use Overlay, not Preview.

Virtualdub 1.9 is recommended for capture.

Did try preview mode then I got green screen or no screen at all. Did try in OBS too, I got screen but no sound there.

Output is going via scart converter 3xRCA but I doubt that matters. I also tried S-video on that same scart because it got s-video too but same thing.

Tried in 1.9, and in VD2 same thing when selecting WDM VD always froze and it froze that I cant even end task it in task manager. I need to restart or sign out PC.

Could it be because of Win 10 ?

To switch to S-Video you need crossbar thing, Pinnacle drivers don't have it on newer OSs.

It sounds similar to the solved issue you posted about a little while ago. https://www.digitalfaq.com/forum/vcr...hs-1000-a.html

IDK what the issue is but the OS wouldn’t cause that. I doubt the Pinnacle 710 is the cause.

Problem was with chip of VCR, how is that similar at all don't understand...

I have few VCRs, and I'm doing this on my other VCR JVC S9760E that is working without problems. So something with settings I would say is problem, because in OBS there is picture but no sound, and OBS is known for that sound issue with some capturing cards.

From a friend. Why does it matter ?

It's working in OBS but only picture, there is no sound, and that's well known issue in OBS with some capturing cards. So it must be some settings that I need to figure out how to set to get picture and sound.

Because that card is like 17 years old. Where you get your gear from matters.

I know, he took good care of it. No problem there.

If you got your pinnacle 710 from the same friend you got your Pannasonic HS-1000 from then that would be the person to ask about the issues you have going on. Since it’s your friends I would just call them up and see what issues they had unless they haven’t used this gear recently.

I didn't.

He had no issues with Pinnacle. I didn't tried their software yet to see if it works with that one without issues.

I am not saying it’s the issue but I wouldn’t rule out that Scart adapter. https://forum.videohelp.com/threads/...site-%28RCA%29

Then again is it’s the scart adapter then your friend you got the gear from would of ran into the same issue if he used that kind of adapter for his captures that he did recently. I just don’t see why they didn’t have the same issues that you are having.

Scart adapter is mine. I test it on my Elgato video capture, and all outs are working fine.

At least you can look at what your friends did and you know what works. It’ll help you troubleshoot and you won’t have unexpected mechanical issues.

Something is amiss here, and I feel like we're not getting germane details. So the suggestion to "ask your friend" (who previous owned the card) may be prudent.

There is not a single 710 card from Pinnacle, but multiple versions. Some of those are terrible, for multiple reasons, both for usability and quality. This sort of situation is what happens when people random buy (or borrow) items, even when "the same" (not the same) item.

Bad cards also happen, and the oldest 710s are more than 20 years old now. One unit can be handled with care, and be fine decades later. Another can be stored in the attic, and board contacts melted away. Externally, both "look the same", but one unit is good, and the other belongs in a landfill.

I'll inspect everything and check today internally and see if the unit works, if not I will return it to a friend not a problem.

It's working in Pinnacle Studio 20 without any problems video and sound.

In amarectv I got error message attached.

In VD no picture or sound, when WDM is selected software froze.

In OBS I got picture but no sound.
