Does every vcr (with DIGITAL dropout compensation) turn off the feature when NR is enabled?
I attached a sample here where i'm flicking between 3d-dnr on and off.
Both features are very useful when you want a direct lossy capture, but it's sad that dnr can't be enabled, otherwise you may get dropout lines. (the doc doesn't remove all and large dropouts, but most).
Also with dnr disabled, there's more vertical jitter on tapes with lots of dropouts (using es10 passthrough), plus sometimes the compensator picks up noise as well like in the sample, so them not working together is pretty problematic.

Just found out that re-insterting tape not in the beginning, but a bit further fixes the problem, though it's not the best solution.
