I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this question, but...

Where can I see a comparison/contrast of the video quality of a transfer done the "right" way with a workflow like Smurf's vs. the average VHS to DVD or VHS to digital products on the market?

LS himself usually doesn't post his own captures, I'd like to some of those myself.

As for where you can see the results of some recommended setups, this YouTube channel probably follows it the closest and has a few comparison videos:
https://www.youtube.com/@videocaptureguide

Issue is that most capture comparisons you'll see online aren't compared directly in most cases to the usual/standard consumer options using an identical starting source. Further, if clips are hosted on YouTube, that could make the video quality different than what you'd get without the YouTube compression potentially.

There are quite a few forum posts here that compare two chains to each other, but again, the clips are rather short and every video source is different.

I think you’re talking about something like this Roxio Easy VHS to DVD 3 Plus VHS, Hi8, V8 Video to DVD or Digital Converter Amazon Exclusive 2 Bonus DVDs [Windows Disc]
https://amzn.to/4alxUIs

or this
VHS TO Digital Converter, USB Video Capture Card, Video Capture Device, RCA TO USB Converter,Convert VHS VCR Hi8 Mini DV to Digital/DVD,For Tape Player Camcorder Camera PC TV,Windows Mac OS Compatible
https://amzn.to/4ahcxrO

Those are usually paired with a cheap composite VCR. Does there need to be a video comparison between this method and that method? Those are really bad.

Is there a sample that can show what your video will look like with just knowing it’s a VHS?

You could always pay someone with known good tested gear to see what your videos would look like if they are done right.

This method does require a whole lot more time and money than those other devices but the results aren’t close.
