My first unit keeps asking for firmware so I'm unable to make it show or change the options, this is BM for you, they force you to update or you will never be able to change the setting, but as far as I can remember it has ProresHQ as the highest setting, I thought this was because of the firmware update but apparently not, since both are on the same version, The only way to find out is to update the damn thing.

I don't think this is an issue, just drop the capture file into vdub2, set video to no processing, set audio to full processing, go down to convert and select stereo audio, Done, lossless and quick.

How come? Aren't you selecting Uncompressed 10bit? Connect it to the computer and fire up HyperDeck setup app and select Uncompressed 10bit, but again you could be facing the mandatory firmware update, it doesn't hurt to try though.

I've just updated the device and now I have the uncompressed 10bit, I just realized that the version I mentioned is actually the application version not the device's firmware version, a usual brain fart. So all good now. I'm still not sure how to check the device's FW.

I have selected the Uncompressed 10 bit setting. That file format is mov though and not AVI. At least it does seem to be working like it is supposed to be. I'm glad I never invested in Blackmagic products when I was working full-time after messing with this device. Like I said, it will be a great backup recorder for funerals and weddings, even if I don't use it here at home for much. My next thing to test is going SDI out of my TBC into the Tricaster to capture and see how that goes. That way I can avoid double conversion in the TBC like what happens now since the old editing PC won't capture SDI, I have to convert it to component coming out of the TBC.

Thanks,
Marty

I have bad experience with BM firmware update when I installed BM in another PC and got notification to update firmware, update failed and card was completely FUBAR. Because that was PC not card problem. So never update firmware if card is not working properly.

The device was working properly, I just couldn't change the setting anymore without going through an update, There was no choice unfortunately.

I tried using my HyperDeck Shuttle 2 and selected ProResHQ setting. The video looks great and it's not a huge file like uncompressed would be. The issue is the longer the file plays the more the audio and video get out of sync. The video is getting ahead of the audio. I'm using a Samsung 860EVO drive which is on the list as a working drive. I was recording to a memory card at the same time that's built-in to the switcher and that file is fine. Not sure why this is happening. I'm sending SDI off the switcher to the HyperDeck.

I would say best thing you can do is capture from a known stable source, like the HDMI output from something like a computer or other device with HDMI output. Ideally it'd be something without copy protection, but an HDMI splitter will probably remove that in a pinch. The idea is to see if the audio gets out of sync with a "known stable" source.

I would think that SDI coming off the switcher is very stable. The memory card that it recorded the same program to was fine. I'm not sure why it happened, but it played fine starting out and then lost sync the longer it played. Couldn't be dropping frames since the audio was lagging the video. Strange to me.
