Just verifying what the neutral setting is for sharpness in Virtual Dub when capturing with an ATI TV Wonder USB 2.0.

128 would seem to make the most sense (or but doesn't seem to be the case here regarding 0) although I thought I saw the software initially set 128 for saturation/tint/etc. as defaults (granted these can need to be shifted from default but that is another matter) but 200 (?) for sharpness? But I'd think it's gotta be 128 right I assume some have tested carefully just to be 100% sure?

I have the same question of the ATI AIW 9600 Pro. Well i suppose this applies to all ATI cards in general. Is the default 128 adding artificial sharpness to the image, or would dragging it to 0 make it artificially softer?

128 should be unity/0/neutral setting for all.

Know that the driver version can control what the default is, and same for MMC.

There is where having multiple ATI AIW cards, and multiple non-AIW cards, is helpful for comparative testing. Without that, you'll have to rely on blind testing, looking for halo/ringing artifacts. But noting the source tape and VCR can affect it.
