Hi all
I have about 7 VCR's.

JVC HR-J737MS
JVC HR-J747MS
Panasonic NV-SD420

Are the main ones which I capture my tapes with (VHSC/VHS) PAL mostly, Along with "Avermedia EZMaker C039" card on Windows 7 64bit.

All of those VCRS doesn't have a S-Video out.
Would it be so much of an upgrade to start with a VCR from ebay which has S-Video out?

The only machines I can find here with S-Video are DVD-VHS Combos by LG (which I believe is less quality built from the ones I have?)

Sorry for short reply, i read your post "on the fly"...

To start well,
Y/C should be considered almost mandatory.

Yes, to start.
But better deck with line TBC (not just Y/C aka s-video) will be massive quality boost.

Where is "here" -- what is your location?

Combo units are not quality, nor do these actually have s-video. The video is internal composite, and the s-video output is worthless as a result. Composite over Y/C, not separated (s-video = separated video).

I recommend you to buy a JVC unit with Line TBC.

Where is "here" -- what is your .
Hi, I'm from Israel.
Only PAL but no TBC devices around here EXCEPT a Philips VR20 which I found for 500$.
Anyone familiar with this machine?
I am afraid of servicing high value machines because there are no places for fixing them around here.

I have looked on ebay and I can afford Philips VR1000 and this VICTOR HM-DR10000 on ebay right now for 300$ (japanese version of the JVC and Philips).

Or maybe just ordinary vcr with TBC would be ok for the job?

Ordinary VCR doesn’t have Line TBC, you can use DMR-ES10/15 (TBC ish) and then a Frame TBC.

I have found Panasonic HS830B on ebay for 225EUR,
On VCRSHOP it's 250EUR.

Is it a good machine to start with?
Does it even have TBC?

Do not buy from eBay.
eBay = random people, random junk

Stop quibbling over $25 (or more) for a VCR that was $500+ when new. Trying to pinch pennies is what gets you into trouble.

Sorry to be blunt, but sometimes blunt is needed to drive home the point.

A non-TBC deck is vastly inferior, assuming the with-TBC unit is in good properly functioning condition.

I do not know off-hand is the HS830 has TBC, you need to research, ask questions, before randomly buying gear. The manual should have that information, and other PAL users here can perhaps give you the answer on that Panasonic deck.
