So just got my AIW 9600 card and installed it as well as all available software that came with . The software that came with it was MMC 8.8 as well as some other bits and pieces. I am planning on trying to do some capturing soon, but wanted to know if that version will be suitable/useable as i have seen lots of discussions on various versions being better than others and ended up just being confused. Will that version do the job or should i rather opt for a "better" version.

thanks

Yes, that version will be suitable/useable.

In fact, I believe the 9600 card still in use here is running from ATI MMC 8.8 from the original CD that came with the card.

Pretty much any version from ATI MMC 8.7 to 9.02 is viable for the older AGP/PCI slot cards.
For the newer PCI Express slot cards -- which the 9600 is not -- you're limited to using ATI MMC 9.14 to 9.16 (the final version).
What you do not want is pre-8.7 versions.
