I have an HR s9900U and an HR s9911U in line from My DirecTV Standard Box.. I can get the Menu/Setup to show on the TV Screen; but I can Not get a signal from the Satellite Box.. I have the channel selector tuned to L-1 which is the Composite InPut/Output on the Back.. No Audio or Video, the VU meters do Not move.. Its probably something simply.. Any Ideas?? Tnx, W.G.

First, remove one of the VCRs from the chain, to eliminate variables. Then try both the front and back inputs on the remaining VCR, to see if perhaps the rear L1 is faulty.
If the error persists, or even if the error is now gone, swap VCRs, and see if the same applies to the other unit.
If both units still refuse to pass a signal, chain the VCRs into one another. See if the first can play a tape, and it can be seen by the second one.
If that passes, which is likely, then the DirecTV box is blocking composite output. There have been rumors of this, though it's been unconfirmed to date. It may be receiver-specific, if it is happening.

Hi,
I don't have the VCR's piggybacked; I was A - B 'ing them.. I was trying to get one to work with this Satellite receiver, then I was going to connect the other to another receiver.. I have had this Standard DirecTV receiver hooked to another of my highend JVC's before and it worked OK; even though I think I had a problem at the start..
I got tired and fustrated with it; it wasn't making sense to me so I put it down for awhile.. Gng to try some of your other suggestions..

Hi,
My s9911U seems to have some problems.. My s9900U is working; feeding my Standard Box in the Back "L-1" and my High Def/DVR in the Front "F-1".. Seems to be working fine, well sort of; I can't get the S-VHS to work.. Got to buy a new Cable or 2, I guess.. Don't have a clue why the s9900U didn't work the 1st time????
Tnx, W.G.

Are you referring to recording onto S-VHS tapes.
Or using the term "S-VHS" to state generically that the VCR will not function in some way.
Or accidentally using the term "S-VHS" to describe the s-video connection/wire.
Please clarify.

Hi,
Trying to get an S-VHS signal from the DirecTV Standard Box to go into the HR s9900U and then pass it through to the TV Screen like the Composite Signal will do.. Then I might Record in S-VHS, I have never had much luck Recording in S-VHS.. One problem at a time..

- S-video is the wire/signal.
- S-VHS is the tape format.
It quickly gets confusing if you improperly use the terms interchangeably.
Try this, in this order:
- s-video out of DirecTV box
- s-video into S-VHS VCR
- s-video out of S-VHS VCR
- s-video into TV

did you go into the menu and tell the VCR's to use the S-Video input instead of the composite?
JVC's by default are set on composite

i actually did this exact thing not that long ago trying to copy a blu-ray onto s-vhs for testing.
took me a minute or 2 to figure out what the hell was going on
remember everytime you unplug a JVC deck it will revert to composite and you have to go back into the menu to turn the S-video back on.

I totally can't believe I forgot about that.
... clearly I've been too tired lately.
