During playback, the signal starts deteriorating near the end: video dropouts, audio crackling, video goes away completely, audio continues then muffles down to zero before everything pops back into place in the final seconds of the program.

I would just buy another one, but this was a promo tape internal to retailers and I guess rental places. Haven't seen another one pop up on eBay ever.

Have you removed it from the shell and manually REW / FF it?
Then see if you can smooth out bad locations, if any exist.

What is it? I know a few big MMPR fans that may have alread digitized this.

I've never taken apart a cassette and I can foresee that ending in a floor full of tangled tape. You think it's possible to make that part playable for someone who knows what they're doing, though?

The tape is titled "Power Promo". It was just made to hype up the brand.
