As I await other hardware...is this machine magnavox zv427mg9 I can get for $50, anything good about it?
Owner says it's almost new, barely used, only for taping sermons on Sundays...

Junkware made by Funai. Utiitarian at best, use only for recording directly to DVD for material of no or little importance. Typically horrid tape player, even if it works. Why do you want it?

If you mean using the Magnavox as pass-thru tbc, not all DVD-R's can be used as pass-thru. Even if it did work this way, the ES10 and ES15 are far more powerful for that purpose.
