I started the VRO thread a while back after gleaning a bit of info from an RD-XS32.
Then took that to a really good programmer, and he added a new feature to his existing product.
The News is.. this thing actually works, and its impressed me. I've tested it with the models RD-XS32, 34 and 35 so far.. and will continued to test with the 50, 52, 54, 55 later today.
And to be clear I'm speaking of "reading" the recordings off, not "salvaging" and gluing the pieces back together.. this is following the TMAP for each recording.
.. but testing continues, its not available yet.. but it is only an add-on feature to an exiting product.. so its also not a ground floor startup of a whole new tool. It could be available soon.
I wanted to put this news out there in case people had a Toshiba DVD recorder with a dead DVD burner. They are still useful, and you can get your recordings back. I've seen it and its really neat. -- they only have NTSC tuners, but they make useful MPEG2 capture boxes.
