I captured a VHS tape using AmaRecTV with the HYMT codec, then imported it into VirtualDub for trimming the video length, then exported a direct stream copy. Then I reopened it in VirtualDub, used a deinterlace filter, and exported using HuffYUV multithread plugin. However both my direct stream copy and my deinterlaced second export are unable to be properly converted to other formats (I'm specifically looking to create an x264 .mp4).

I first tried Handbrake and Shutter Encoder, both of which export half of the video offset, with the other half of the video green. I also tried to Avidemux, which will export only audio with a black screen. It's been a few months since I archived a VHS, but previous everything worked fine using the same equipment and workflow, including using Handbrake to create the .mp4 file. Unfortunately I don't have the original AmaRecTV TV file as I deleted it after I exported the trimmed direct stream copy from VirtualDub.

I'm definitely a bit of an amateur in this space so I'm at a bit of a loss here. I've included an example screenshot of what's happening.

EDIT: I forgot to mention, the videos themselves play fine in MPC-HC.

Hm, my advice is to either encode the files uses Selur's Hybrid or convert them to regular Huffyuv, not the Multi Threaded version.

I'd say try encoding with Hybrid, Handbrake kind of sucks from what I've heard

I installed Hybrid and took it for a spin, but I'm still getting the same issue. It's weird to me that both VirtualDub and MPC-HC have no issues playing the files, but all of the video converter software I've tried does. Maybe an incompatibility with the FFmpeg library? I guess at this point I'm going to have to try to re-encode with regular HuffYUV and hope for the best.

If anyone else has any suggestions I'd love to hear them.

I forgot to update my thread. As it turns out, for whatever reason, the problem only happens when using HuffyYUV Multithreaded and setting the colour depth to 4:2:2 YCbCr (YUY2). However, using single threaded HuffyYUV with the same colour depth produces no issues. I'm not sure why, and since single thread Huffy works just fine for my needs, I'm happy to continue using that without investigating any further.
