Hey m0rdant;
I did exactly this !!
What I did not do was try to encode both DVD's as one film. I encoded each disc seperatly and simply added them both in to the same project in Ulead DVD Workshop.
I even retained the 5.1 AC3 Dolby audio tracks (in two peices of course) .. Muxed each half of audio & video together and then brought them into DWS .....
Used KDVD or course .., looks fantastic.
Bottom line ... there was no way I wuz gonna let the kiddies touch the original discs, not after what they cost ...... Actually still have the DVD image of it somewhere on one of my systems.
Can't remember the actual parameters used, but they were somewhere in the area of Max = 4500, Min = 1200 with padding & CQ was set to 76 I think. Pretty sure on the bitrates, but not on the CQ, but it's about right.
My min bitrate was set very high to accomodate dark scenes and to allow for all of the rich textures to come through.
Considering that with Kwags KDVD template you can get anywhere between 4 to 5 hours with his default bitrates I figured, without prediction, that this would still leave enough room for the 730 meg AC3 track.
And it did. We are very happy with the result. Plays awsome ..
Good luck with yours ..
