Kwag,

With all the changes going to the Matrix and GOP structures etc, will the new Matrix make its way to the DVD templates. I've just bought myself a DVD writer so was wondering wether these templates are usable with the new matrix etc.

Kwag,

A couple of things with the new DVD template. The aspect ratio has been changed to 16:9 form 4:3, is this correct? Also, Detect Scene Change is ticked and i thought we were supposed to untick this. Other than that - definate filesize improvements and better quality!

The four KDVD templates are set to aspect ratio 16:9 on output. Detect scene change is unticked. Maybe you loaded another template? Are you sure you downloaded the ones posted yesterday? Check the time stamp. They should be 1/13/2003 and time ~4:36PM.

For some reason, detect scene change always appears to be ticked on my version of tmpeg (latest version) - maybe its a bug with tmpeg.

My only question was about the 16:9 setting. If i'm going through the normal add borders process through FITCD - wouldn't i just want this 4:3? Won't we get less on a dvd if its encoded 16:9? I only ask because my dvd writer arrived today and i'm about to start playing

It all depends if you want to preserve the original "Anamorphic" on the DVD, in which case you encode with Anamorphic checked on both input and output. Remember that this way your final size will be larger than if you encode without anamorphic checked on output. For DVD output aspect, you should keep aspect to 16:9, unless it's a 4:3 movie.
