Something else that I noticed about this movie. Is it me (my eyes) or is
it the Movie.. it's heavy w/ zigzag lines (or sawtooth) around edges and
horizontals etc. Others..

Known glitches:
* zigzag / sawtooth in all scenes
* in many scenes, you can see things flutter

So Jelly.. don't feel too bad.. caues here in NTSC, we suffer some
issues of our own too

But, damn, this is still a GREAT movie. I love theme music too. I hope they
do a sequel

An idea has occurd to me..
See if there is a Superbit (Sbit) version out their.

I'm looking for one now, for Red Planet like crazy. I have this crazy
idea in mind, and I really want to try it out, but I can't seem to find the
Sbit version yet. Anyways.. you all know how bad they put this great
Movie on this DVD - - pretty poorly. Those dark scenes make my head hurt.
I was able to overcome those nasty blocks, but it was hard work figuring it
out. Anyways.. Charlie Angles is out on Sbit now. I just saw it at K-Mart
this eving, while buying two other DVD titles The Corruptor and 10
(Bo Derek) for $5.99 ea. They got LOTS of these low price $5.99 titles. I
guess some DVD titles's are going down in price.

I'd sure love to hear how that theme song sounds on a cranking 5.1 surround setup !!

Those scenes look more field-swapped to me rather than interlaced. I'm not seeing jagged edges. In Vdub, for the frames in question, activate field-swap and see if output is any better.

I've have to try this "field swap" thing out. I have an that I want
to try out.

In the mean time, this "field swap" will kill out speed advantage because
it's only 29.970 fps now, hence the need to IVTC.

But, in my case, w/ the "jagged eged" that I noticed through out the Movie,
maybe this will resolve it, and the "field swap" would be worth it the added
trouble

That's it Vhelp. It is a question of getting back to the original progressive frames and trying to clean them up and whether it is worth the trouble.

I never trust the interlace/progressive indicator in DVD2AVI. I recently did the matrix (PAL) with the new script (on one CD!!) and it showed "interlace" but could not see one such frame in Vdub. Same with Shawshank Redemption.

Hay, FYI.. I did try that "field swap" option in dvd2avi, but for my NTSC
dvd, it was worse. Actually, I was definately better of w/ "forced Film"
mode.

I have to chalk it up to Hollywood for producing a poor transfer to DVD.
I cereiously believe that they screwed up on this transfer. But, for the
most part, it does't really matter all that much, since I have the DVD and
I've seen the Movie (and enjoyed it during the day) brrr..brrr...
and those few test encodes satisfy me enough. I was only just sharing
what I noticed w/ you all, and was hoping that maybe it could be corrected
to some degree w/ a quicky or something. Unfortunately, for my NTSC
version, this is not so. So...

I'll wait till the Sbit version comes out, and hope that they make a better
transfer, but w/out those jaggies. hehe..

Hi Vhelp. Sorry mate I don't think I made myself clear. What I meant was not to use field swap in DVD2AVI. Definitely leave it as force film. What I meant was to look at the scenes that look like Jellygoose's in Vdub. Then use the field swap in Vdub to see if it corrects on the output frame. If it does then you use SwapFields() in your Avisynth script to correct for that scene only. Fields both spacially and temporally sometimes get messed up and tagged incorrectly and interpreted wrongly in Avisynth.

I tried your tip, today, but I had no luck. When I used VDub Filter Field Swap, the scenes that had interlaced lines before, still had them, and all other frames looked all soft, with "jagged edges", I think
Well I really don't wanna mess with that movie anymore. I now have a result I can live with the Telecide line posted above!
