I notice that the width of most of my avi files is between 200-300 pixels.

I have encoded a few avi files at 352x240 - the quality is reasonable but I would like it improve it. I could use the 352x480 template but again the width in pixels of most of my avi files are below 480 so I imagine that I wouldnt gain any improved quality and the file size will be large than at 352x240

It seems alot of people like the 352x480 template when going directly from DVD to KVCD. But what resolution should I be looking at using for going from AVI to KVCD with these resolutions.

480 x 384
560 x 272
608 x 256
640 x 336

You should use the kvcd resolution which most closely matches the resolution of your avi....this way, you retain as much of the video information as possible.
