That's only that you encode with a CQ that is too high. And as each movie need a different CQ value to fit exactly on one CD, no one can tell you the correct value to use for your particular movie.
That's what CQMatic is for : it finds the optimal CQ you have to use.

But i always have to use this high CQ value, because whenever i use a smaller resolution, like 528x480 or even lower 352x240, i get an horrible image quality, with a lot of "noise"/"color blurs" on the contours of all caracthers, objects and persons on screen. They look like a badly aliased web graphic!!!
Not sure if this is a side effect of something wrong i do or if its a carachteristics of VCD 352x240 resolution.
I'm really disatisfied with the overall quality/size of the xvcds in making, so i guess i'll just give it up. i've downloaded various mpeg videos from kazaa with 352x240 resolution that look excellent, with a great sharp image quality when i make vcds with them, so....
