Hello everyone,

Since I'm new to this forum, I hope I'm positng in the right area.

I've been using the guide: "KVCD From scratch – A Users guide v1.1".
Nice guide by the way works very well and easy to follow. I've had some very good results with my finished KVCD'S, the files are a little smaller than I would like but I'm still perfecting the file size prediction.

The problem is just this, the finished KVCD will play in my DVD player just fine which is a Panasonic DVD-RP62 however every so often the KVCD will just stop or "hang". I can hear the DVD player searching again and then it will start to play again. Also the KVCD will not hang in the same spot either. Sometimes when I play the KVCD it will go all the way through without hanging and then if I re-watch it it will hang. Others do not hang at all or hang up alot.

I use Nero 5.5 with the latest update and an Aopen 241040 burner to burn. I burn at 4x which is the lowest I can go. I use Imation CDR'S.
I follow the guide exactly with the exception of leaving the FPS at 29.97 which is what the original "clean" material is ripped at. According to Moviestacker. I've read somewhere that you should leave the FPS at the setting of the orginal material.

Has anyone run into this problem before and have worked out a solution to this?

NOTE: Everything is done in mpeg-1 non standard

Hi nighthawk,

Have you tried another brand of CD-R
Also, have you tried burning with VCDEasy, instead of Nero

And maybe compatability of the player with non-standart VCD resolutions...

I wouldn't think the KVCD would play at all if the player was incompatable. I'm not 100% on that. I am going to try VCDeasy but am not sure why VCDeasy would be better or worse than NERO. Can someone clear that up for me.

Thanks

O.K. Now I've tried VCDEasy. It would seem that with the test cd I made there are no hanging problems with the DVD player. However now there is a sound problem. With NERO I would get the dual channel sound in pro-logic mode through the receiver. With the VCDEasy burn the sound only comes through the center channel.

So any ideas concerning sound issues and VCDEasy. My version is 1.1.5.2

Different players act...differently. Many players that don't seem to like KVCD will still play it, only with a few problems, such as stuttering/skipping/garbled video or audio/green blocks, etc. If you've got a picky player, then the trick is to try and figure out which combinations of different resolutions/framerates/min&max bitrates/muxing and burning as (S)VCD/etc might enable you to enjoy KVCD (in some shape or form) on your player. There's plenty of tricks to try.

If your player supports SVCDs, you should try muxing and burning your non-standard MPEG-1 files as SVCD instead of VCD, and see if that might solve the "hanging" problem you described. Or it may simply be that your player doesn't like the variable bitrate used by KVCDs (for your sake, I hope not! ). You might also try a different brand of CDR....your player may not like Imation coasters (oops, I mean, discs. Obviously, I don't trust discs manufactured by CMC Magnetics, which Imation were still using last time I checked...quality control has been an issue for them in the past).

Good luck,
-d&c

I've tried SVCD before and my player doesn't like them. Regular VCD'S play very well. Is there any way for me to tell which manufacturer is producing my "coasters"? Any suggestions on a decent media? I always used Memorex in the past for VCD'S. I just happen to have a bundle of Imations.

On the Imation subject, my NERO program will only recognize the top burning speed of these disks at 12x my CD-RW supports up to 24x burn speed. The Memorex disks were always recognized properly by NERO.

Cool program Kwag!

Is there a preferred choice CDR that burns or works better for the creation of (K)VCD'S. Help here would be very benificial as testing many different CDR's can become very costly.

I got nervous when I read this because I'm almost finished with my 50-pack spindle of TDK which are CMC Magnetics Corporation The store was out of Fuji No problems yet that I've seen but I'm burning at the slowest speed and crossing my fingers

I switched over to using VCDEasy which produced a better overall picture, with the Imation disks. However I still would get that sporadic hanging up problem. For instance I watched movie "a" and it hung up only once. I then watched movie "a" again and it hung up alot.

I'm going to try the Fuji disks and see if that makes a difference or not. Since, my DVD player will play the KVCD I'm assuming that is not the problem.

One more thought here, I've got my XP box as streamlined as I can get it according to blackviper's website. I run Norton but I disable the auto-protect feature during encoding, multiplexing. ripping. basically the whole process including burning. Would there be a chance that m y burner itself is the problem? If so how would one know?

Sometimes kvcds hang on my mintek 1600, I've only used nero to burn the images. Once I slowed the burning speed to 12x no more hang ups. They would hang when I burned at 24x and 40x. BTW: I'm also using cheap Mitsumi CDRs.

Have you used VCDEasy yet? It allows for burns down to 1x, it seems to give me a better picture. Also Fuji media is working well so far. Maybe a combination of the two.

Anyone know if having Nero, VCDEasy, and the internal XP burner all on one machine will cause problems

Also will norton mess up the KVCD even if the auto=protect is disabled during all the different phases?

I have problems with burning VCDeasy .bin images thruogh Nero, so I use VCDeasy to burn. I don't know what is the problem (VCDeasy uses Nero ASPI and it works ), but I don't bother
