just curious as to what everyone uses as there settings in dvd2avi and there reasons for doing so. here are mine:

VIDEO:
iDCT Algorithm - 32-bit SSE MMX (its the fastest. i believe, no quality loss)
Field Operation - Forced Film (ALWAYS, unless NTSC encoded - less than 70% Film, then becomes interlaced)
Color Space - YUV 4:2:2 (?)
YUV > RGB - TV Scale (not as dark as PC Scale)

AUDIO:
Track Number - None (dont want an uncompressed WAV file)
Channel Format - Auto Select (?)
Dolby Digital - Demux All Tracks (i use BeSweet to encode ac3 to mp2 in 5.1 surround)
MPEG Audio - Demux (?)
48 > 44.1KHz - Off (i encode my mp2 at 48KHz)

these setting are based on the fact that i will ultimately be using my kVCDs for playback on my standalone dvd player with my tv.

And here are my settings:

VIDEO:
iDCT Algorithm - IEEE-1180 Reference
Field Operation - Forced Film (ALWAYS ON, unless NTSC )
Color Space - YUV 4:2:2
YUV > RGB - PC Scale ( TV looks too bright )

AUDIO:
Track Number - 1 ( Or english track )
Channel Format - Auto Select
Dolby Digital - Decode and Dynamic Range Control Normal
MPEG Audio - Demux
48 > 44.1KHz - Off
Normalization Checked

hey KWAG. dont you find that you can barely see dark scenes with PC Scale? a couple of videos have come out too dark when playing on my tv.

i adjust by checking the "Output YUV data as BasicYCbCr not CCIR601" in the special settings under the Quantize matrix tab in TMPGEnc. this seems to make the colors true again. the black goes back to black and keeps a clear brightness. hopefully im not just adding a pointless step.

Kwag,
If I use your standard template, should the process of converting audio from 48kHz to 44.1kHz be done in DVD2AVI or in TMpeg? If it is to be done in TMpeg, I can switch off that function in DVD2AVI as you did, right? If that is the case, will the processing time in DVD2AVI be shorter?? DVD2AVI takes about 1 hour and 25 minutes to convert audio to WAV.

Leave the process to TMPEG. It's much faster.

So what's the consensus for YUV > RGB? PC or TV?

Also, should this thread be moved to the DVD2AVI forum as a "sticky" post? (I looked there first!)

In DVD2AVI, I use YUV in color space and TV scale. Leaving the "YUV output data as basic ...." "Unchecked" in TMPEG.
