Howdy,

I'm trying to figure out a name or code, model...anything about this 8-pin connector called "TV". Is this a SCART connector or something? Higher resolution image available by right-clicking on the image and selecting "open in new tab".

Thanks,
Dead Christmas

SCART is typically a 21-pin connector.

The image looks to be an old consumer/home use VTR, GE branded made by Sony. AKA a Sony Reel-To-Reel Video Recording System CV 2000 from 1965. Black and White, maybe 200 line resolution, used 1/2" tape. An interesting relic

The 8-pin connector can be seen in the lower right of the schematic diagram. You can probably trace the circuit to determine the pin-out/signals.

FWIW: The 1968 Allied Radio catalog listed it for $695. $350 for a paired video camera, and $295 for a 22" monitor/receiver.

Enjoy.

I found it!

8-Pin EIAJ

"EIAJ 8 Pin jacks are found on old VTR decks and receiver/monitors. 8 pin to 8 pin cables allowed convenient connection for off the air recording since old VTR's don't usually have built in tuners and required being connected to a separate TV receiver / monitor"

Well found. You might struggle to find the male connector as a new part. I once repaired a Sony 5" reel battery model. I think I ended up making up an adaptor using the plug from the matching TV camera with an RCA socket for the video line out signal.

If you havent already come across this, at that stage in the late 60's, Sony had problems with compatibility between units. Sony couldnt guarantee a good picture on tapes recorded on another deck, even after adjusting the tracking control. I vaguely recall the problem was something to do with the alignment of the video heads between production examples. Obviously their production tolerances improved as time went on.

I think I'm gonna have to agree. It's gonna take some work.

This connector, is it hooked up via cable or do I have to "dock" the backs of the VTR's together or something like that?

I don't follow. What are you trying to achieve?

I've actually never seen one of these connectors being used. Is it a male-to-male cable that fits into the respective device's "TV" connector?

Yes. I think as you quoted it allowed the VTR to record programs from the TV's tuner, and then to send the recorded signal back the other way to the TV for playback. Only later did VCR's incorporate their own internal tuner for off air recording.

Some of the betacam decks have a "monitor" connector that looks nearly identical, I have no idea if they are compatible though.

I had a Sony monitor/TV with that connector. Sadly, it's now long gone and now I might have use of it

KV-1311CR, circa 1985. It worked flawlessly until it went to e-cycle about 10 years ago.
I found the manual at manuals.lib but also got a nasty phishing hi-jack when I went there on my PC.

I did captured an image from a page that describes the connections possible on the monitor. It was quite flexible, used for either digital or analog. I even might have the SMF-503 cable buried somewhere but have no idea since it would have been required with a CGA digital signal as from an original IBM PC/Clone (as I had at the time).

I also captured an image from a YouTube video about Amiga 500 PC's which happens to discuss hooking up to the 1311.
