I have three JVC BR7000URs and they all display the same behavior:

- I can fast forward a tape or rewind it
- I cannot get any of the decks to play or record: it starts making noises like it will, then doesn't.

I switched it between remote on and off thinking that might be the issue, no change.

Tried different tapes, both commercial movies and Maxells. No difference.

The 5000hr runtime indicators on all three are of course red, but that wouldn't prevent the unit from operating, right? It's just an indicator of reliability.. right? Because that would be stupid.

There must be some simple thing I'm missing, since all three are behaving the same, but there's no manuals that I can find for this model anywhere.

Suggestions?

Thanks in advance.
