Play Hi8 tapes on any Video8 camcorder?

Does any of these three video8 camcorders work for playing Hi8 tapes?

Sony CCD-TRV15E
Sony CCD TRV23E

No = Hi8 tapes on Video8 camera
Yes = Video8 tapes (and Hi8) on Hi8 camera

I'm not aware of any Video8 camera that plays Hi8. However, even if such a feature did exist, it would look as bad as S-VHS tapes on a VHS VCR (via SQPB).

All videocameras I mentioned are video8 videocameras.
It seems like all three cameras are Hi8 compatible. If so, why can't they playback Hi8 tapes?

Looking at the manuals, for the Sony CCD-TR415E it states that the model is a video8 camera, the CCD-TR515E and CCD-TR713E models are Hi8 cameras. So you exact model isn't compatible with Hi8 tapes.

Likewise for the TRV15E and TRV23E, only the TRV65E is a Hi8 model, the rest are video8 only.

An aside, FWIW a Video8 (only) camcorder should be able to record in Video8 mode (not Hi8 mode) on Hi8 tape.

OK, all three cameras are video8 and are bad chioces if I search a camera for playback of Hi8 tapes.
