Hi. I am a new member on here and I am interested in learning more about some equipment that I own. I joined a few months ago and read all the instructions and would like to know more about this site. I'm posting today because I've been working overtime at my job for the last few months, so I haven't had any time for it until now.

I live in San Diego, and I am a collector of vintage audio & video equipment, like radios, records, 8-track tapes, Betamax, VHS, laser discs, RCA video discs, CDs, and DVDs.

Specifically, my question is about a vintage VHS format VCR that I want to repair and restore, so is it an acceptable topic for this web site?

I hope to get some helpful advice on here, so any suggestions are much appreciated.

Thanks!

Thanks for the nice welcome; now to my question.

I own a pair of portable VHS VCRs, a Panasonic Omnivision model PV-5000 and an identical J.C. Penney model 686-5019, which I am planning to repair and restore. Before I get started, I need some information about its belts and tires. I've tried researching this VCR online, and I can't find very much information about which belts and tires it requires. In my online searches, I found a company in Los Angeles that sells a belt and a replacement idler for this model, but no references to these parts online anywhere else or in the service manual for it. There is no belt kit available for it, and it's not listed in any cross-reference documents, which confuses me.

Here is my question:

Does the Panasonic model PV-5000 VCR use belts and tires or does it use a different mechanism? Is there any other important information that I should know about it before I get started working on it?

Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks!
