Hi all
I am fairly new to forum and i am constantly learning about vhs conversion as i go along. I am busy trying to assemble a setup of equipment that would be capable of doing a decent job of vhs conversion and so far i have a P4 3.2ghz pc with windows xp and aiw 9600 capture card. However at the moment i am trying to get hold of a decent vcr for playback of my old tapes, and Im struggling to sort through all the choices involved. I have seen a list of recommended vcrs on the site and have listed an advert with those models on my local classifieds site. However because i am based in CT , south africa i am limited to the pal models as that was the format we used with VHS.
I have had one reply to my add with someone offering me a JVC HR-J72MS , is that any good ? JVC and Panasonic seem to be good brands based on the forum. Otherwise i would appreciate any advice you could give that would lead me to find any good quality pal vcr's for VHS conversion.
thanks

No, I would not get a JVC HR-J72MS. It's a consumer grade VHS deck.

Was wondering if something like this would be a good buy ,
http://www.ebay.com/itm/JVC-S-VHS-Re...#ht_5006wt_956
it doesn't state if it has tbc and is not listed on lordsmurf's list , but seams in the correct model range with regard to numbers....

Cool , so is this a good value for money buy? Would it be a decent first vcr at the price for converting old vhs pal tapes.
I am just a bit hesitant as it is not on the list of recommended vcr's?
thanks

okay ya i see it now
however that is not a recommended list but rather a total list , i would like to know if its a good vcr model to buy or if its better to keep looking for another model on the recommended list?
i just found another possible one , how would the above compare to something like this

The list is not necessarily finalized -- it's considered a continual work in progress.
And the JVC HR-S7711E/EU is a good model.
