There are apps that actually do a really good job...

There are apps that actually do a really good job of using the phone camera to create PDFs. I use Genius Scan myself.

Are video cassettes that use macrovision marked in any way, like with a logo on the case?

Is this a good indication of a working TBC?

I made a capture of a tape, and visually, i cannot tell the difference between the capture I did with the TBC and without it.

Virtualdub reports 1 inserted frame while capturing without the TBC....

Turning of the various settings in the vcr for TBC etc. didn't help. Could the head be misaligned or something? I don't know what that would look like though, so I'm just guessing.
