Worst case is burn out the motor, or the driver circuit on the board supplying the motor due to excessive voltage or current. Also, it might not be a good physical fit; e.g., different size or connectors. No way to predict without careful study of the schematics of the VCRs, both the old and the intended for the part. Or finding someone who has already tried it.
Typically substitute parts will be listed if the original is no longer available. And the -003, etc, suffix often indicates a minor manufacturing change in a otherwise equivalent part.
