This is the repair needed to fix ERROR 20 on a SONY EVO-9850. In order to accomplish this, you need to be an EXPERT in soldering and de-soldering. The lands on these boards are fragile and can be lifted and damaged very easily! See attached pictures included in this thread. Use Aluminum Electrolytic Capacitors Radial, Can - 2000 Hrs @ 105°C. Capacitor Parts List:

CN-551 BOARD
C2 .22uf 50V
C3 .47uf 50V
C4 4.7uf 35V

SST-2 BOARD
C808 3.3uf 50V
C809 10uf 16V
C810 10uf 16V
C811 10uf 16V
C812 10uf 16V
C813 1uf 50V
C814 1uf 50V
C815 1uf 50V
C825 3.3uf 50V
C837 .22uf 50V
C838 47uf 16V

i just did this to my evo-9850 except i replaced almost all of the caps on the sst-2 board but the head wont start or spin right with c810 c811 c812 installed if i remove them and give the head a bit of a spin it will catch and spin up and work fine.

From my experience, that tells me you may have a damaged trace or plated thru hole in that area.

well darn. i had a bad connection from c814 to pin 1 on the ic801. and ill be! it works!

Why are you replacing OSCONs with Aluminum electrolytics ?

I had the same error 20 in a SONY EVO-9850, changed the capacitors as indicated and IT WORKS!
