My AG-1980, purchased in 2017 from TGrant, intermittently while playing will just freeze. (yes, it has labels inside indicating that some caps were replaced). It's not as if the pause button was pressed, which would give a relatively clear freeze frame and the display would show the pause icon, it just stops playing and the picture on the screen freezes, although about 50% of the picture is covered in static/noise. Again, not a normal pause function. When this happens I simply press REW, which works without delay, and then PLAY. And it may play again for hours. During a 3 hour baseball tape it happened just once at 45 minutes in. It's not a big problem as that sequence I just described makes it easy enough to edit out in VirtualDub later. Nothing else appears affected, no strange noises, the display is lit up and working as expected it just simple freezes. I'm hoping someone has seen this before so when it does become a problem I might know what to do.

I replace quite a few more caps than Tgrant does, but really the only way that the image can "freeze" would be a problem with the TBC card I would think. I've re-refurbed a few of his refurbs with a good success rate, but it's not cheap due to the many hours of tedious work that goes into it. PM me if interested.

Yes sir. If I happen to be travelling to Michigan (assuming you still live there) I might just drop it off one of these days. For now it's manageable but I will let you know.
