I bought a Sony EV-C40 at a garage sale a decade ago. It ate a tape or two and I put it aside. I tried it this week with several 8mm tapes and it worked fine.

Does the Sony EV-C40 (8mm VCR) has TBC? I can't find much info on this deck. If I bought the manual, would TBC appear somewhere in there? Can can one know whether a deck has TBC or not?

That's just a plain Video8 deck. Doubt it. Video = VHS quality.

Hi8 usually had TBC, like S-VHS often did in good players.
