Hi All,

My most recent video capture is an .avi of file size 5 GB, my largest capture file to date. After capture I usually offload my XP PC by transferring the .avi to a USB stick.

Windows wont let me transfer this recent file to the stick saying there is not enough space on the stick . . but the stick is 25 gb.

Can any one tell me how I can move this file to the stick?

1.6 GHz Pentium 4, 3 GB RAM
Windows XP SP2
Hard Drive is NTFS (100 GB) and the stick is FAT32 (25GB)

Workflow (for ref) :
JVC 9911 >> TBC-1000 >> AIT AIW USB >> Virtual Dub >> HuffYUV

Thanks, 22west

Fat32 has a ~4 GB file size limit.

One solution is to recapture into smaller files.

If you must transfer the file as is to this drive try making it a spanned zip file.

Ah yes I get it now - I figured it was something like that.
Understood with zipping the file to get it out - I will go that route.
Thanks a lot for the quick reply!

Actually I just re-formatted the stick to NTFS instead of FAT32 and it took the 5 GB file no problem. This is much easier on the PC since compressing the file was taking way too long and the CPU was maxed out.

That is a good approach. Just keep in mind that you cannot use the drive in a system that does not speak NTFS.

That's an interesting point. I think that explains why I had problems capturing directly to the stick before - when it was FAT32. . .

FWIW: Captures to USB can also fail due to USB not providing a consistent steady sustained write speed capability.

Yes, acknowledged - I have heard LS mention that before. I am interested mainly to check my slave HD which might also be FAT32. I have captured videos under 4 GB there but they were bad - very jitterly for sound and video, as opposed to my primary HD captures which have been great. I will check to see if my slave HD is FAT32.
